Ian Blowes, who served with the Royal Corps of Signals from 1996 to 2003, is one of the driving forces behind a thriving veterans breakfast club based on the east coast of Yorkshire. What began as a simple idea has grown into a vital community hub, offering much more than just a meal.
Meeting twice a month, the club provides a hot breakfast, warm drinks, and, most importantly, a safe and welcoming space for veterans, serving personnel, and their families. With around 65 regular attendees, many travelling in from surrounding villages, the club plays a key role in reducing social isolation and supporting mental wellbeing.
Now, Ian is taking that mission even further.
At the end of May 2026, he will set off solo on an ambitious 6,000+ mile motorcycle journey through at least eight European countries. Along the way, he plans to visit significant locations including Auschwitz and Nordkapp, deep within the Arctic Circle.

This challenge is about more than the miles.
Ian’s journey aims to shine a light on the Withernsea Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club and the wider global network of over 500 breakfast clubs operating across 15 countries. Together, these groups support more than 150,000 veterans and serving personnel, providing connection, camaraderie, and crucial support.
By taking on this demanding ride alone, Ian hopes to send a powerful message: no veteran is ever truly alone.
