As part of the revised package, full LED Matrix headlights are available for the first time on a Skoda production car. As is to be expected, a number of new assistance systems are also making their debuts, including Predictive Cruise Control. The latest Superb also features updated Blind Spot Detection, which now works at an increased distance of up to 70m.
Superb’s elegant design has been refined subtly with a remodelled radiator grille and a chrome trim strip between the LED taillight units. Thanks to a revised front bumper, the Superb has grown in length by 8mm to 4,869mm (estate by 6mm to 4,862mm.) The wheelbase, width and height remain exactly the same, which means that the Superb retains its ‘most spacious’ status as before, with a generous amount of interior space and a boot capacity of 625 litres in the hatch or 660 litres in the estate (which is extendible, of course) it continues to set the benchmarks in its class.
In terms of drivetrains, the revised Superb is available with two petrol and two diesel engine options from launch, with power outputs ranging from 117bhp for the 1.6TDI to 269bhp for the range-topping 2.0TSI. Seven-speed DSG automated-manual gearboxes and four-wheel-drive are available on selected models.
Inside the updated Superb, new chrome highlights, different seat covers and coloured contrast stitching provide a fresher appearance. The UK range will consist of six familiar trim grades: S, SE, SE Technology, SE L, SportLine Plus and the luxurious Laurin & Klement. As before, all models in the range feature incredibly high levels of standard equipment including seven airbags, a touchscreen infotainment system with DAB, voice control and SmartLink+ for smartphone connectivity.
Later in the year, the Superb range will expand again with the arrival of both 1.5TSI 147bhp and 2.0TDI 147bhp engines. Early in the New Year, we shall see the arrival of Skoda’s first ever electrified model, the Superb iV plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which is powered by a 1.4TSI petrol engine that delivers 153bhp allied to an 85kW electric motor. The combined maximum power output of the two power units is 215bhp and the car will be sure to deliver exceptional performance along with significantly reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions and zero range anxiety. When the Superb iV arrives, it will have CO2 emissions posted below 40g/km, along with an all-electric, zero-emission range of up to 34-miles thanks its integrated 13kWh battery. It can be recharged at either public superchargers in around 30 minutes (80%), or via a domestic wall-box (100%).
List prices, prior to discounts being applied, start at £24,655 for the 1.6TDi hatchback, rising to £40,695 for the 4x4 estate car version in petrol-turbo L&K trim. Prices for the hybrid version will be announced nearer to its launch date.
